Menu design for pizza kitchens in Burns and Dickson, Tennessee.
The Client
Morgan opened 029 Pizza in Burns in 2025 with a clear visual direction. An existing logo, created by another designer, established the branding. The restaurant’s black, white, and red interior carried that same clean, simple style.
She later opened 055 Pizza in downtown Dickson, where we adapted the menu design for the second location.
The Challenge
029 needed its first menus ready for opening. They needed to reflect the restaurant’s personality, make the food easy to browse, and present the options clearly.
The design also had to work in two formats: a durable menu for restaurant use and a trifold menu for takeout customers.
Building on the Brand
I used the existing logo and restaurant interior as the starting point. The menu carried the same black, white, and red palette, with a little playfulness to reflect the logo.
The focus was on readability. Customers needed to find their options and understand what they were ordering without having to work through a crowded layout.
Two Menu Formats
The in-house menu was printed on durable, waterproof menu paper made to withstand repeated handling and spills.
The takeout version used a trifold layout. I adapted the design to the folded format while keeping the branding consistent and the information easy to follow.
Adapting the Design for 055
The two locations used nearly identical menu designs, so creating the 055 version required only minor changes.
That’s a practical benefit of working with the same designer as your business grows. I already knew the brand and had the original files, which made the updates easy and fast.
A Personal Favorite
Menu design brings together two things I’ve enjoyed for years: graphic design and food. I started my career in graphic design, have food industry experience, and spend plenty of time cooking in my own kitchen.
Although menus aren’t my primary service, I love designing them. I think about what customers need to know, how they scan their options, and how the layout can help them decide what to order. Making a menu easier to read and supporting sales are central goals of that work.
The Outcome
Morgan had coordinated restaurant and takeout menus for opening, followed by an adapted version for her second pizza kitchen.
The project translated an existing brand into practical printed materials, with a consistent design that was straightforward to update as the business grew.
